Zoom Controls
Zoom lets you inspect page details, read small text, and appreciate intricate artwork. Komic offers three zoom methods to fit different needs - quick inspection, precise control, or comfortable reading.
Zoom Methods
Section titled “Zoom Methods”Double Tap Zoom
Section titled “Double Tap Zoom”The quickest way to zoom in and out.
How it works:
- Double tap anywhere on the page
- The page zooms to your configured scale (default 2.0x), centered on your tap
- Double tap again to zoom back out
Best for:
- Reading small dialogue bubbles
- Quick inspection of details
- Checking panel artwork
- One-handed zoom on smaller devices
Configure the zoom level: Settings → Reader → Double Tap Zoom Scale (1.5x - 5.0x)
Tips:
- Tap on the text you want to read - zoom centers there
- Lower scales (1.5x-2.0x) work well for slightly small text
- Higher scales (3.0x+) for tiny details or very compressed pages
One Finger Zoom
Section titled “One Finger Zoom”Enhanced zoom for detailed navigation without committing to staying zoomed.
How it works:
- Double tap and hold your finger on the page (don’t lift)
- Page zooms in while you hold
- Drag your finger to pan around
- Release to zoom back out
Best for:
- Quickly checking a detail without staying zoomed
- Inspecting artwork while keeping your reading flow
- Reading one or two speech bubbles
- Checking if a page has important details before zooming permanently
Configure it: Settings → Reader → Zoom section
- One Finger Zoom Scale: How far it zooms (1.5x - 5.0x)
- One Finger Sensitivity: How fast you pan (1.0 = slow, 10.0 = fast)
- Invert Horizontal/Vertical: Reverse panning direction if it feels backwards
Tips:
- Higher sensitivity means small movements cover more ground
- Lower sensitivity gives more precise control
- Try inverting axes if the panning feels unnatural
Pinch Zoom
Section titled “Pinch Zoom”Traditional multi-touch zoom for precise control.
How it works:
- Place two fingers on the page
- Pinch outward (spread fingers) to zoom in
- Pinch inward to zoom out
- Drag with two fingers to pan while zoomed
- Supports up to 10x magnification
Best for:
- Reading multiple pages while zoomed
- Gradually finding the perfect zoom level
- Examining very fine details
- Precise zoom control
Tips:
- Zoom gradually to find the comfortable level
- Pan around with two fingers while zoomed
- Double tap to quickly return to normal zoom
- Image quality depends on source - very high zoom may show pixelation
Zoom Behavior
Section titled “Zoom Behavior”Resets Between Pages: Zoom level resets when you turn pages, so you always start each page at 100%. This prevents accidentally staying zoomed across your entire reading session.
Maximum Zoom: All methods support up to 10x magnification. Image quality at high zoom depends on the original page resolution.
Works in All Modes: Zoom functions in LTR, RTL, vertical, and webtoon modes. Webtoon zoom is optimized for vertical scrolling.
Navigation While Zoomed: You can still turn pages with swipe gestures at the edges while zoomed in.
Common Use Cases
Section titled “Common Use Cases”Reading Small Text
Section titled “Reading Small Text”Problem: Dialogue or captions are too small to read comfortably
Solution:
- Double tap the speech bubble (2.5x-3.0x zoom scale works well)
- Read the text
- Double tap to zoom out and continue
Examining Artwork
Section titled “Examining Artwork”Problem: Want to see intricate background details or character expressions
Solution:
- Use pinch zoom to gradually zoom in
- Pan around to explore different areas
- Zoom up to 10x to see fine linework
Quick Detail Checks
Section titled “Quick Detail Checks”Problem: Not sure if that background detail is important
Solution:
- Use one finger zoom to quickly peek
- Release to immediately return to reading
- No disruption to your flow
Reading Entire Pages Zoomed
Section titled “Reading Entire Pages Zoomed”Problem: All text on the page is consistently too small
Solution:
- Use pinch zoom to find a comfortable level
- Read the entire page while zoomed
- Swipe at edges to go to the next page
- Note: Zoom resets on page turn, so you’ll need to zoom again
Tips for Better Zoom Experience
Section titled “Tips for Better Zoom Experience”Adjust Defaults: Spend a minute configuring your preferred zoom scales. The defaults work for most people, but personal preference matters.
One Finger Sensitivity: Start at 1.0 and increase if panning feels too slow. Most users prefer 2.0-4.0.
Downloaded Content: High-resolution downloads look better when zoomed. Low-resolution or heavily compressed pages will show artifacts.
Double Tap Placement: Where you tap matters - double tap on the text you want to read, not randomly on the page.
Combine Methods: Use double tap for quick zoom, but switch to pinch for fine adjustments.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Zoom feels too aggressive:
- Lower your zoom scale settings (Settings → Reader → Zoom)
- Try 1.5x or 2.0x for more subtle zoom
Panning feels backwards:
- Enable “Invert Horizontal” or “Invert Vertical” in Settings
- This reverses the pan direction to feel more natural
One finger zoom too sensitive:
- Lower the sensitivity setting
- Start at 1.0 and slowly increase until comfortable
Images pixelated when zoomed:
- This is normal at high zoom on lower resolution pages
- Download higher quality versions if available
- Some old scans just have limited resolution
Can’t zoom enough:
- Maximum is 10x on all methods
- If that’s not enough, the source image resolution is the limiting factor
