Downloading Content

Download a Series

Navigate to the series you want
Open the More menu
Choose Download Series
Pick one of the download options:

Download unread books to grab the next unread or in-progress books
Download read books to keep completed books offline too
Download all books to save all books in the series

For unread downloads, you can choose a rolling amount such as the next 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, or 50 books, or download all unread books at once.

Download Individual Books

Open the book’s detail page
Tap the Download button
The book downloads to your device

Download a Read List

Komic can also download books from a read list, which is useful when you want a curated offline queue instead of downloading an entire series.

Open the read list
Open the More menu
Choose Download Read List
Pick one of the download options:

Download unread books to grab the next unread or in-progress books
Download read books to keep completed books offline too
Download all books to save the entire read list

Smart Downloads

Smart Downloads is an automated way to keep unread books available on your device without constant manual downloading. It works for both series and read lists.

How it Works

When you enable Smart Downloads, Komic monitors your reading progress and keeps a rolling buffer of unread books downloaded.

For series, Komic follows the unread books in that series
For read lists, Komic follows the unread books in the order of that read list

As you finish books, Komic can queue the next unread ones to maintain your chosen buffer. If you use the global Delete when read setting, completed books can also be removed automatically to free storage.

Enabling Smart Downloads

You can enable Smart Downloads from the content you want Komic to manage:

For a Series

Open the series
Tap the Smart Download button in the series header, or open the series context menu
Turn on Enable Smart Downloads
Choose how many unread books Komic should keep downloaded

For a Read List

Open the read list
Open the More menu
Tap Smart Downloads
Turn on Enable Smart Downloads
Choose how many unread books Komic should keep downloaded

Configuration Options

For both series and read lists, you can set:

Rolling Window: Determines how many unread books to keep on your device. For example, if set to 3, Komic will always try to have the next 3 unread books ready.
All unread: Komic will monitor and download all unread books instead of keeping a fixed window.

You can choose a rolling window like 1, 3, 5, 10, 25, or 50 books, or choose All unread.

Content-Specific Behavior

Series: Smart Downloads follows unread books in a single series, which is ideal for ongoing reading or catching up on new releases.
Read lists: Smart Downloads follows the curated order of the read list, which is useful when you want an offline queue that spans multiple series or follows a custom reading order.

If the content is already downloaded, updating Smart Download settings applies the new rules immediately.

Delete Read Books

When Smart Downloads are enabled for a downloaded series or read list, you can use Delete Read Books to remove completed books from your device while keeping unread books ready offline.

Managing Monitored Content

Manage Smart Downloads from Settings → Downloads → Smart downloads:

Monitored series: Review tracked series, adjust rolling windows, disable monitoring, or manually sync
Monitored read lists: Review tracked read lists and manually sync them when needed

Managing Downloads

Deleting Downloads

To free up storage space:

Navigate to the downloaded content
Tap Delete Download
Content is removed from your device (but stays on the server)

You can re-download content anytime.

In addition, you can enable Delete when read in Settings → Downloads. When this global setting is ON, Komic will automatically remove a book from your device once it is marked as read, freeing up space for the next download.

Storage Considerations

Downloads use device storage. The amount depends on:

Number of books/pages downloaded
Image quality and resolution
Comic format (CBZ, CBR, PDF, EPUB)

Check your device storage regularly if you download frequently.

Offline Reading

Once downloaded, books work completely offline:

No Connection Required: Read without Wi-Fi or cellular data

Full Functionality: All reader features work normally (zoom, modes, settings)

Local Progress: Reading progress saved locally

Sync When Online: Progress syncs to your server when you reconnect (if sync is enabled in Settings → Reader → Sync)

Multi-Server Downloads

If you have multiple servers (Komic+):

Unified Downloads View: All downloads from all servers appear together in the Downloads tab

Server Association: Each downloaded book remembers which server it came from

Read List Support: Downloaded read lists also work across servers and appear in the same Downloads area

Independent Management: Delete a server and its downloads remain on your device

Download from Any Server: Switch between servers and download content from each

This makes it easy to have an offline library that spans multiple servers.

Tips

Download Over Wi-Fi: Large series can use significant data - use Wi-Fi when possible

Pre-Download for Trips: Download content before traveling without connectivity

Manage Storage: Regularly clean up finished or unwanted downloads

Check Server Space: Some servers have download limits - check with your server admin

Re-download If Needed: Deleted downloads can always be re-downloaded from the server

Troubleshooting

Downloads Failing:

Check internet connection
Verify server is accessible
Ensure sufficient device storage
Try downloading individual books instead of entire series

Missing Downloads:

Check you’re looking in the Downloads tab
Verify download completed (check progress indicator)
Restart Komic if needed

Corrupted Downloads:

Delete and re-download the content
If problem persists, check the original files on your server
