Page Upscaling
Improve clarity on lower-resolution pages by upscaling them directly in the reader.
What It Does
Section titled “What It Does”When enabled, Komic enhances smaller or lower-resolution page images so they look sharper on high-resolution screens.
- Improves clarity on softer scans
- Helps pages look better when zooming
- Runs directly on your device
Settings
Section titled “Settings”Settings → Reader → Upscaling
Available options:
- Upscale images: Turn page upscaling on or off
- Maximum image height: Skip upscaling for taller source pages to reduce processing cost
When to Use
Section titled “When to Use”Good for:
- Older or compressed scans
- Lower-resolution manga pages
- Reading on larger or high-density displays
- Pages that look soft when zoomed in
Not for:
- Already sharp, high-resolution pages
- Users prioritizing fastest possible page loads
- Devices where lower memory use matters more than image quality
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- Page loading can be slower
- Memory usage may increase
- Taller source pages above your configured maximum height are not upscaled
- Results vary depending on the original scan quality
- Start with the default maximum image height, then raise it only if you want more pages to be processed
- If page turns feel heavier, lower the maximum image height or disable upscaling
- Upscaling works best on pages that are genuinely low resolution, not pages with heavy compression artifacts
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”No visible difference: The page may already be high resolution, or it may be taller than your configured maximum image height.
Pages load more slowly: This is expected. Lower the maximum image height or turn off upscaling.
Results still look blurry: Upscaling can improve low-resolution pages, but it cannot fully recover detail missing from the original image.
